This is a list/guide of New Zealand LANs. I don't intend to list every LAN in New Zealand here, just more fo the solid popular ones that are regular and reliable each year.
LAN Parties are social events, popular among everyone whos into gaming and having fun. Each gamer can bring a desktop PC - usually worth more than the average home computer.
Networking within a LAN Party is more reliable, faster and much more entertaining. Prizes are sometimes awarded to those who win games, dominate other players and so on.
LAN Parties are always a good place to get your PC fixed and problems/issues resolved due to the number of technical orientated individuals who attend these events. Usually the gamer has to have a moderate level of computer skill inorder to perform tasks themselves.
LAN Parties usually charge for attendence but aren't out for profit, LAN parties are great places to meet friends, make new friends, have fun with others & generally socialize among people who enjoy computers & gaming just as much as you.
National Event - The only event that comes to mind is xLAN, 800+ gamers - major sponsors, $80-90 a ticket, paid security, large expensive venue!
Large LAN Parties - Typical averages around 80-120 odd gamers in attendance, usually with sponsors in a paid venue with restricted Internet access.
Medium LAN Parties - Usually has about 20-50 odd people, held in free venues, relatively cheap or free & may not have internet access available.
Home / Garage LAN - Typically around 5-15 odd people, usually a small social gathering of friends. Generally not sponsored and typically play a limited number of games common among the group.
Console LAN - These LANs usually involve a large house or venue due to the fact that TVs are required for the consoles.
xLAN &
NZ WCG - The largest LAN party event in New Zealand, xLAN is a highly popular professionally run and sponsored, world recognised 800 person LAN event that combines both the xLAN event & NZ World Cyber Games in one 3day weekend event held once a year.
